THE ROT
WARNING: This aspect of the campaign is heavy on Body Horror and Illness. This page includes images with (stylized) body horror.

With night gone, the balance of the world has been thrown off. This manifest in Elemental Rot, also known as the Rot, which can afflict any animal.

Those who develop it are plagued by an overabundance of one of the five elements: Light, Fire, Water, Ice, or Wind. They produce these elements from their body without any control over them. Ice Rot might cause shards of ice to grow over the paws and make it difficult to walk. Water-Rot might drench the victim constantly and leave them cold and vulnerable to illness. Light-Rot might burn out the eyes of the victim, or be constantly static-y. Rot can make use of up to two elements at once.

While the Rot itself doesn't kill, it mutilates and hampers the body to an extent that the victim usually can no longer function. If ice covers your mouth and stops you from eating, well, what killed you? Treatment is available but only slows the Rot, or helps mitigate it from stopping major functions. Exposure to the opposite element seems to help.

Rot begins slowly, and progresses over time. Fire-rot might start as an unending fever, and then after a few months start burning the victim's fur off. At extreme levels, they might be choked with smoke and set anything ablaze.

At extreme levels, the pain and confusion make the victim nearly mindless and often aggressive. Some claim they can hear a call from their Warden....

With regular treatment and support, one can learn to live with Rot. For most cats, it's a chronic illness and disability to manage. But it's not easy, and not all animals have access to that...

Nobody knows where it comes from, or even how it spreads. Only that it's caused by an imbalance in the elements. It can effect any animal, and even plants, rendering them inedible. The already slim resources of the world are quickly being swallowed up by the rot....

Can balance be restored?
