The Split Soul

It's not enough to simply awaken your soul. Long ago, all souls were split into two, and now you must also find your other half. Half a soul cannot bear the weight of this alone.

Every creature has a Soul Partner, the other half of their soul that shares the same Soul Shade as you. This shade is determined by class, meaning your soul partner will always be the same class as you. Finding your Partner and combining your powers is called Soul Rooting. Once rooted, you will gain access to even greater powers.

A full wheel of shades and colors will be revealed at the start of the campaign.

The missing section will be saved for a future opening.

SOUL ROT

If only rooting was enough. Finding your Soul Partner will help you gain power, but it won't help you manage that power. The world is out of balance, and reaching into the elements has risks

As characters progress and level up, the overwhelming elements will cause them to begin to Rot. Just like creatures of this world, they will begin to develop out of control elements, but this time of their Soul Class.

The nature and extent of it is up to the player, but characters must suffer some form of Rot as they get stronger. (The powers and level spreadsheet on the Classes page has more information). This could mean losing control of their powers, feeling unwell and sickly, physical painful manifestations of their element, or changes in personality.

Rooting will help slow and reduce some of the Rot, but can't full get rid of it. For that you need....

SOUL BALANCE

Just as everyone has a partner, everyone also has a Soul Balance. This is a cat from the opposite class as you, who serves as a partner to even you out. These, two, are secret and must be discovered. Finding your Balance and connecting will stop Soul Rot and remove most or all of the effects (at player's distraction - players may choose to keep some effects or consequences to keep their character chronically ill).

OPPOSITES

Red - Blue

Purple - Green

White - Black

Exposure and treatments from the opposite element, even if not your Soul Balance, will help reduce Rot. For example, a Purple Soul suffering Rot can have a Green soul blast it with wind to help.

Both your Soul Partner and Soul Balance will be hinted at through OOC puzzles, IC hints, and levels of Alignments.

DEATH

Sometimes, awakened cats die. Once fully awakened, a cat won't die from old age, but still may be killed by other, violence means. When they die, their soul is converted into two Soul Stones, which hold the essence of themselves.

One Soul Stone goes to their partner. This is usually the color of their shade, and is diamond-shaped or can take a shape that is meaningful for the dead cat or their partner. Keeping your partner's soul stone close is the same as rooting.

Another Soul Stone goes to their balance. This is  also usually their color of their shade or their color, and is oval shaped. It may take on a shape meaningful for the cat or their balance. Keeping your balance's soul stone close is the same as balancing.

Soul Stones might not be found immediately after death, and may take a while to be found.

If two cats both have dead partners or balances, they may trade Soul Stones to become Chosen partners/balances. These will have slightly weakened versions of their powers, but allows them to connect with someone regardless.
