The Halted World

Long before anyone can remember, the sun stopped moving. Night ceased to be. Darkness, as most knew it, went extinct. Day is eternal and unending, and the world suffered.

THE EMPTY WASTES.

Half the world was plunged into scorching days that fried every living thing and boiled every drop of water. The other half was abandoned to frigid nothing, yet always bathed in sunlight. These areas are known as the Empty Wastes.

The animals who reside here are more prone to the effects of rot, or going extinct altogether with landscapes completely transforming within only a few hundred years. Yet many have migrated to the habitable zones, fleeing the empty wastes the more they became unlivable.

THE HABITABLE ZONE.

Only a small strip between the two halves is habitable to any extent. The sun never sets, but hangs low in the red sky. Temperatures vary and water still flows. What life remains hangs on, with some even thriving in small pockets of paradise.

Though resources are scarce, creatures still live. The last humans live in cramped, hi-tech cities with artificial food production. The wilds and the ruins of other human cities are inhabited by all sort of creatures, but most notably, cats. Though food and water is scarce, groups of cats and loners find ways to survive.

Six months ago, a solar eclipse reminded everyone of darkness, of the stars. Maybe paradise could be returned... but the light isn't the only problem. There's also Elemental Rot.
